Another Build for GF!
This is a basic storage shelf, flatpacked for shipping, completely assembled on site (takes around an 1hr if working alone). 16mm plywood with 6mm backboard, super sturdy with no side to side racking.
Construction is very simple, each shelf is connected to sides with 4 angle brackets. 3 Back panels are fixed into the sides and shelfs with screws.
This is the first project where I wanted to use Water Based Paints. Water based paints are scarce in Indian Market, Oil is default nobody is using water based paints for finishing plywood.
Rant on Water Based Paints
After a lot of digging around, I found Dulux PU Satin Stay Bright. I used this paint on the entire shelf. I like the color but for some reason a stickiness was still there even after a month of drying out. I followed right proportions and did 3 coats but that nice finish and strong hold which can be seen on Enamel paints is far superior to water based paint.
Yes water based are easier to work with, cleaning is easy, very minimal odor but I don’t want to compromise finish quality for these benefits. USA has so many good water based options which have superior finish like Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, Indian Brands like Asian Paints holding more than 50% share still don’t have a decent water based wood paint. I hope the market is more conscious on this allowing greater adoption and demand for good quality water based paints.
